Society Registration

What is a Society?

A Society is a Non Profit Organisation. employed in promoting charitable activities like education, art, religion, culture, music and sports, etc. It’s an organized group of persons whose main objective is to serve society and not to earn a profit. Society Registration, under, The Society Registration Act, in India, lays down certain procedures for the sake of society registration  and its operation.

Time Duration to Form a Society

  • The Society Registration in Chennai takes 2 months min to get registered.
  • For Society Registration in Tamil Nadu other than Chennai, it will take a minimum of 30 to 40 days.
  • For Society Registration in Bangalore, it will take 10 to 12 working days

Miscellaneous information

  1. There is no maximum limit of members for a Society
  2. A society cannot be legally valid if it is formed for Profit.
  3. The object of the society can be changed with the consent of the Registrar
  4. No stamp paper is required to form a Society

  1. The name should not be similar or identical with any other society name.
  2. It should consist the word Association or Society.
  3. It should not have any offensive words

Steps after Society Registration

  • General body meeting to be conducted every year.
  • Office bares to be elected every year.
  • Accounts to be submitted at the general body meeting.

Where to Register a Society

Registrar of societies i.e., District Registrar in every district has the power to register a societies. The Societies can be registered with the registrar of the District in which the society has its office.

  2. Address and Designation of all the members
  3. Object of the Society
  4. Rules and Regulations of Society
  5. Affidavit of president/secretary stating relationship between the subscribers.
  6. Address proof of the office of the society and no objection certificate from the land owner.
