These are the important documents which are required for ISO 22000 certification.

THE PROCESS OF ISO 22000 CERTIFICATION :

There are certain procedures which are involved in the ISO 22000 certification. In this process the certification body performs various audits and verifies the document for the certification.

  1. Application
  2. Assessment
  3. Initial certification audit
    – Stage 1 : Auditing
    – Stage 2 : Auditing
  4. Certification

1. Application :

It is the first step for the process of ISO 22000 certification. In this step we need to apply for the ISO 22000 certification to the authoritative body by submitting the quote request form for the new registration. Once we file the request form to the body, they will provide the quote for the certification. After getting a quote for the certification we need to provide the certain documents and there are several auditing procedures and confirmation procedures that should be conducted by the certificate authoritative body.

2. Assessment :

In this stage we need to book an appointment with the assessor of the NQA (Global certificate Body). The person who can verify all the quality and the document for the organisation also approves for the audit checking of the applicant. The organisations should demonstrate the FSMS policies which have been operated in the last three months to the assessor before the scheduling of the first audit.

3. Initial Certification Audit :

It is the next step that the process of several rounds of auditing should be undergoing which confirms the quality and safety of the organisation who are involved in the food manufacturing. The detailed auditing of two steps which were conducted by the certification body.

The assessor shall institute the process of certification of the audits based on the quote application which was provided by the applicant for the certification.

There are two stages of auditings are conducted, for the auditing the certificate body should conduct checking and tests by audition method.

  • Stage 1 – Auditing (document review)
  • Stage 2 – Auditing (main audit)

– Stage 1 – Auditing:

During the Stage 1 of auditing the assessor should involve the auditing of the certificate which includes.

  • Verification of the FSMS requirements for the ISO 22000 eligibility.
  • Implementation of the FSMS should be verified
  • Validating the scope of the certificate.
  • Regulatory requirements checking
  • Conforming the assessment plan which applies with the organisation.
  • Verifies legal compliances

In this first stage of the auditing, which mainly focus on the basic policies of the organisations and the stands which come under the FSMS guidelines.

– Stage 2 – Auditing :

In this second auditing it is used to confirm the management system which undergoes the requirement stands. If in case the organisation or the site is more than one location we need to verify these scopes to the auditing for the certain locations. It includes

  • The documentation is reviewed by the objectives and evidence based.
  • The certificate verification for the additional sites, locations.
  • Surveillance plan should be checked for submitting the annual surveillance report.

In case the auditor or the assessor identifies any major mistakes in the certificates or in the auditing process, the certification should not be issued until the mistake or the certificate is corrected and submitted to the assessor. If in case the process is not completed within 14 days, then the process should again follow the two stages of auditing initially.

4. Certification :

While in the two stages of the auditing by the assessor after successfully completed, it finally determines that the FSMS complies with the requirements of the ISO 22000. And the certificate body finally issued the certificate to the organisation. The certificate body sends the soft and hard copy of the certificate to the appropriate organisation. The certificate copy will enable the high standard of the organisation to reach in the global markets of the business.

CERTIFICATION VALIDITY:

Once the certificate is obtained from the authoritative body. It will be valid for 3 years. It is mandatory to maintain the annual surveillance audit and 3 years of recertification audit.

COST OF ISO 22000 CERTIFICATION :

The cost of ISO 22000 certification mainly depends on many factors. The costs are not fixed by the ISO standard but it varies for every business based on the certain circumstances. Those are :

  • Size of the business.
  • The employer or the handlers of the food business.
  • Production line and the service range of transportation.
  • HACCP plans based.
  • Based on the branches of the company business.
  • Risk activities.

COMPARISON OF ISO 22000 WITH FSSC 22000 :

  • ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 both have the same role on the food safety management systems, but FSSC 22000 specifically covers the food manufacturers and the food safety quality management. But ISO 22000 only focuses on the organisation which is involved in the food chains.
  • Both ISO 2200 and FSSC 22000 are certified by the Global Food Safety Initiatives. But FSSC 22000 is more popular in the world for its safety and protection than ISO 22000.
  • ISO 22000 allows the flexibility for the implementation of the food safety management system but FSSC 22000 is maintaining stricter rules and regulations than ISO 22000.

COMPARISON OF ISO 22000 WITH OTHER FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT STANDARDS :

  • HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) which deals with the identification, elimination of the hazards in the quality of the food. ISO 22000 deals with the approach of food safety management but both are interlinked with the guidelines.
  • Safe quality food code (SQF) which is widely used in North america. The code which is based on the HACCP principles and focuses on the quality, management of the food safety and supply. SQF is more prospective than ISO 22000.
  • Global Food Safety Initiatives (GFSI), it is not a management system but it provides the certification for all the safety and management systems of food safety. ISO 22000 which comes under GFSI.

Basically ISO 22000 is one of the several food management systems in the several ones which focus on the international standard for the food quality management system.

CONCLUSION :

ISO 22000, it is a comprehensive safety stand for the food management which provides the framework to maintain the risks of the food and makes sure of the safety precautions from the hazards. While implementing the ISO 22000  is one of the challenges which have certain benefits under the safety and the consumer confidences in the food industry. The certification of the ISO 22000 which helps to reach the global level of the marketing and improve the growth and brings the consumer trust. ISO 22000 certification is a big process that requires only the correct certification and the auditing which helps to bring the certificate from the authoritative. It should be maintained by the annual surveillance of auditing for the extent of the validation of the certificate. These are the detailed views about ISO 22000.
